Meet the Members of our Trusted Advisory Board:



Virgil Hockersmith

Virgil Hockersmith served as Chief Operating Officer of TherEX Inc. from 2003 until 2014. Mr. Hockersmith served as Chief Operating Officer of On-Site Therapy Solutions LLC. Since 1984, Mr. Hockersmith has focused on healthcare and physical therapy in particular and has held various clinical and management positions. He is a physical therapist with over 30 years experience in therapy management. In addition, Mr. Hockersmith has over 20 years of direct experience either running, building, or managing companies involved with providing physical therapy. Mr. Hockersmith was an Original Founder of Rehability Corporation. During his tenure at Rehability, Mr. Hockersmith held the following positions: Vice President, Operations, Vice President Clinical Systems, and Senior Vice President, Development. He has a B.S. in Physical Therapy from University of California at Long Beach.


Julia Polk

Polk is a graduate of Vanderbilt University. A Wall Street investment banker, angel investor and repeated CFO, Polk is currently a board member for Newsbreak Networks, ICHOR Biotechnologies and Scorebird.

With two exits, multiple senior management interim roles and angel investments, she’s facilitated the raising of over $30MM in venture and angel capital.  Since June 2012, she has met, mentored and advised over 70 companies in healthcare services, life sciences and technology, consumer finance, consumer products, hardware/software technology and education technology.



Jim Ward

Jim is CFO and member of 2nd Generation Capital, LLC. Since joining the firm in 2013, Jim has spent much of his time helping clients raise debt or equity capital. As such, he is primarily responsible for developing relationships with private equity, venture, and mezzanine capital providers throughout the country. In addition, Jim has performed overall market research with a recent focus on physician practice consolidation particularly in anesthesia, pain management, urgent care and OB/GYN. Jim has also been responsible for analytical assignments in both valuation and litigation.

Prior to 2nd Generation Capital, Jim worked for Mars and Fannie Mae. His experience also includes initial financial viability analysis of a startup music technology company and financial modeling for a health care company looking for its second round of funding and for a startup energy company.

Jim is a native of Nashville, Tennessee and attended Montgomery Bell Academy. Jim graduated cum laude from Princeton University and received his MBA from the Owen Graduate School of Management, where he was Beta Gamma Sigma and concentrated in Finance, Accounting and Strategy.
